PV Sindhu was awarded the 2019 BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year

Top Indian shuttler PV Sindhu won the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year 2019. The award ceremony was hosted by BBC Director-General Tony Hall. Also, Veteran athlete PT Usha was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. She was awarded for her contribution to Indian sports and for inspiring generations of players.
PV Sindhu became the first Indian to win the BWF World Championships in the year 2019. She has secured five world championship medals. She is the first Indian singles badminton player to win an Olympic silver medal.
She competed with four other strong nominees, namely Mary Kom (boxing), Vinesh Phogat (wrestling), Dutee Chand (athletics), and Manasi Joshi (para-badminton).
